McDonald’s serves fries and occults it with bizarre tarot card offer: ‘Know your fate’

For anyone wondering just how pervasive occult practices are becoming in mainstream culture, look no further than McDonald’s most recent marketing ploy, which involved, among meal deals, the chance to win readings of tarot cards.

The lead of a USA Today article covering the McDonald’s scheme reads, “McDonald’s is gearing up for this week’s celestial and astrological Mercury retrograde shift with both a deal and tarot card readings.”

Listen to the latest episode of the Faithwire podcast below:

In an unfortunate infusion of the occult, customers using the McDonald’s app to buy a medium order of fries received a free McDouble or McChicken and the chance to get a tarot card reading.

McDonald’s has reportedly partnered with Madame Adam, an expert tarot card reader in astrology, to offer readings to select customers. To “win,” customers should have taken to Madame Adam’s Instagram or TikTok posts to share their zodiac sign and name.

Adam announced the effort on his social media platforms, encouraging people to participate so they can know their “fate”. Comment sections on Adam’s social pages were filled with people sharing their zodiac signs in hopes of receiving a seemingly coveted tarot reading.

“I don’t know about you, but for me Mercury in retrograde can be a really tough time. So why not ease the discomfort with comfort food? Adam said in a promotional video. “You want to know what the Tarot has in store for you? Join me and McDonald’s for a very special TikTok Live…to find out your fate.

According to a statement from McDonald’s, Adam planned to “randomly select a few lucky ones to receive personalized readings” during the live stream, which took place this week.

McDonald’s reduction effort coincided with Mercury Retrograde, an optical illusion that takes place several times a year and appears to show Mercury moving backward in its orbit. When Mercury straddles Earth during its 88-day motion around the sun, Mercury’s appearance is retrograde from Earth’s perspective.

But why do so many people care about an optical illusion? And why did Adam say this could create a “hard time”?

Astrologers believe that events in the sky impact life on Earth. So, Mercury retrograde causes people to indulge in all sorts of speculation and superstition about the alleged disturbances they think it can cause.

People regularly attribute miscommunications and other problems to Mercury retrograde, tragically putting their faith in the stars and celestial happenings rather than the Almighty. And this dynamic seems to be getting worse.

Headlines like “Here’s How The Spring 2022 Mercury Retrograde Will Affect Your Zodiac Sign” and “Mercury Retrograde May-June 2022 Will Affect 4 Zodiac Signs The Most” are popping up all over the media this week.

The obsession with the zodiac is problematic from a spiritual perspective, but back to tarot cards. Here is the problem with these supposed oracles: they are a form of divination, defined by Merriam-Webster as “the art or practice which seeks to forecast or predict future events or to discover hidden knowledge, generally by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers.”

And while tarot cards may seem like harmless fun to some, the Bible clearly admonishes divination in the strongest terms imaginable, warning people to avoid it at all costs.

Deuteronomy 18:9-12 is just one Old Testament passage that deals with the subject:

“When you enter the land which the Lord your God is giving you, learn not to imitate the detestable ways of the nations therein. Let there be no one among you who immolates his son or daughter in fire, who practices divination or sorcery, who interprets omens, who engages in sorcery, who casts spells, who is medium or spiritualist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these detestable practices, the LORD your God will drive out these nations before you.

And in Acts 16:16 in the New Testament, we see Paul exorcising a slave girl who has the “spirit of divination.” The Bible is replete with warnings against these practices, yet the culture continues to embrace them and increasingly celebrates these practices.

McDonald’s is the latest major brand to commemorate such unbiblical practices.

As for history, tarot reading dates back 600 years and, although it is used as a board game by many, it is also a tool that psychics use to try to predict the future. A tarot deck has 78 cards and practitioners rely on occult practices to use the cards to create a narrative about people’s lives.

Anyone who mistakenly thinks of engaging in such tactics should remember the biblical commandments to trust God for our future, not man.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,” reads Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV). “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. »
